Tom Ford, Moviemaker Extraordinaire?
I interviewed Tom Ford about three years ago when his first eponymous fragrance launched at Saks Fifth Avenue and he gave me the old “what I’d really like to do is direct…” line. He’s been talking about making movies for years, but it seems like the man who brought sexy back to Gucci is finally making his dreams come true. Keep reading to find out more.

Reports have recently surfaced that the designer will make his directorial debut in a screen adaptation of a 1964 Charles Isherwood novel called A Single Man. It’s about a gay college professor (played by Colin Firth) who deals with the death of his love with the help of a friend (Julianne Moore). If his work at Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and his own men’s line are any indication, you can expect a decent dose of sex appeal and probably more than a little provocation. This is, after all, the man who used full-frontal male nudity in a fragrance ad.
I wonder how well he’ll make the transition from the runway to the big screen. It’s never easy to be taken seriously in a new gig when you’re so well known for the old one–who do you guys respect who has made a career transition? Who would you hate to see trying their hand at fashion design?
