Nerd Alert! Penny Loafers Make A Triumphant Return
Reese Witherspoon, Katie Holmes, and Kirsten Dunst are all getting an A+ in style this fall for their revival of a prep school favorite: the penny loafer. I still remember my mom taking me to Shoe Town in the third grade for a brand new pair, then taking them home to insert shiny pennies into the little slots. Like all good preppy staples (khaki pants, oxford shirts, argyle sweater vests), penny loafers never really go out of style. The classic Bass cordovan version is my favorite (and currently available at Urban Outfitters, a true testament to its trendiness) but Tory Burch and Cole Haan are doing sophisticated new tweaks that are equally adorable.
